The Boulder community and the University of Colorado are mourning the untimely death of Kate Bethune, a promising business student at the Leeds School of Business, who tragically died in a car accident this week.
Authorities confirmed that the accident occurred in Boulder, Colorado, though specific details surrounding the crash are still under investigation. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but despite their efforts, Kate was pronounced deceased.
Kate Bethune was a junior at the University of Colorado Boulder, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance, alongside certificates in Entrepreneurship and Social Responsibility Enterprise. She was also a Leeds Scholar, recognized for her academic excellence and leadership within the business school.
In addition to her academic achievements, Kate was working as a Sales Intern at Trane Technologies, where she had already made a mark by helping sell over $280,000 worth of equipment during her tenure. Her colleagues described her as driven, intelligent, and full of life.
Kate’s passion for business extended beyond the classroom. She believed in the importance of sustainability, innovation, and creating meaningful impact through ethical entrepreneurship. In her own words, she once described herself as “enthusiastic, lively, and optimistic — someone who aims to positively impact the lives of those around her.”
She previously served as Director of Member Selection for the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, and had worked part-time at Lucky Pie Pizza and Tap House and LuLu’s BBQ in Louisville, where she was admired for her kindness and work ethic.
Kate’s professors and peers at Leeds School of Business expressed their grief and admiration for her dedication and character. One faculty member shared,
